I wanted Glory B’s to reflect my personal core values because I felt that honoring them in how we conduct business would ultimately ensure success. Core values are not just touchy-feely words intended to make you feel good. They are fundamentally important because they drive our thoughts and actions. They are not descriptions of the work we do, or the strategies we employ to accomplish our mission. Rather, values form the foundation of our work. They dictate how we interact with one another, and provide clarity to decision-making. In essence, they are the tenants that guide everything we do. Glory B’s values are so important to us, we named our Glory Bar soaps after them.
How Glory B’s conducts business is firmly rooted in the following core values:
Want to identify your own core values? Start by asking yourself this fundamental question:
What is truly important to me in life?
Make a list of your values as you answer this question. Try to reduce your responses to a single word that captures each answer. For example, if one of your answers is, “having a loving relationship,” then you might reduce that to the value of “love” or “intimacy” or “connection”.

Psychologists, anthropologists, and economists all agree that giving gifts is a vital component of human interaction. In fact, experts say that people who do not accept or exchange gifts, may miss out on an important opportunity to connect with family and friends. The act of giving helps define and strengthen relationships. What’s more, psychologists say the significance of giving is greater for the giver, rather than the recipient.
As Harvard psychology professor, Dr. Ellen J. Langer, explained in a New York Times article, ‘“If I don’t let you give me a gift, then I’m not encouraging you to think about me and think about things I like. I am preventing you from experiencing the joy of engaging in all those activities. You do people a disservice by not giving them the gift of giving.”’ She goes on to say, ‘“Giving to others reinforces our feelings for them and makes us feel effective and caring.”’
So by all means, keep on giving. It's good for you.
Glory B's unifies all of what I love most—the earth and its natural elements like stone and wood; the creative arts, whether through the written word, or photography, or paint; and helping others to make the world a better place.
